Harrow Choral Society’s Christmas Celebration
Saturday, December 16, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Harrow Choral Society is preparing for its popular Christmas Celebration in the Speech Room of Harrow School on Saturday 16th December. “Our Christmas Celebration is always a special occasion and it will be exciting to perform in the Speech Room after its recent refurbishment,” said HCS Chair, Margaret Davies. ”
The combination of the historic setting, Christmas music and readings by Tim Bentinck makes a wonderful start to the festive season.”
The varied programme will feature new and traditional music including Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Michael Higgins’s Still, Still, Still along with well-known carols and opportunities for audience participation! There will also be performances from Byron Brass and seasonal readings by actor Timothy Bentinck whom the choir is delighted to welcome back this year as its celebrity guest. As an Old Harrovian Timothy Bentinck will be familiar with the concert venue. Best known for his long-running role as David Archer in the BBC Radio 4 series, The Archers, Tim has appeared in many TV and film productions including Gentleman Jack, The Thick of It and Silent Witness. He has also frequently performed on the West End stage. Tim was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2018 for services to drama.
The 90-strong choir will be conducted by Music Director Sam Evans www.samevansmusic.net and accompanied on the organ by composer and arranger, Paul Ayres.
The concert starts at 5.30 pm and tickets, which are £22, and £2 for under-18s, can be obtained via the choir website at www.harrowchoral.org.uk or at boxoffice@harrowchoral.org.uk
Looking ahead to Spring 2024, HCS will be back at Harrow School Speech Room, Harrow-on-the-Hill, HA1 3HP for its Spring concert on Saturday, 23rd March when the choir will perform Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise along with works by Beethoven, Elgar and Vaughan Williams.
